Global Roots

Global Roots is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming food systems by promoting regenerative, equitable, and nutritious plant-based agriculture. The organization achieves this by modeling agricultural conservation projects, partnering with local organizations worldwide, and providing on-the-ground education programs. In the Dominican Republic, Global Roots collaborates with the RAICES Institute (La Cumbre Education Center) to document environmental changes over the past 30 years through community mapping. This data informs community projects emphasizing agroforestry, water and soil restoration, community land trusts, and health immersions. Additionally, Global Roots operates Brightside Farm and Nursery in North Carolina, USA, focusing on creating a tree nursery to support environmental restoration projects. Through these initiatives, Global Roots aims to demonstrate how transitioning inefficiently used farmland to locally owned land initiatives can increase healthy food options, employment opportunities, and resilient communities.
