Explore Natural Building in Jamaica

This open volunteer day is an opportunity to practice natural building techniques in community. We will work on real strutures, demonstrating how to prepare mixes, make bricks, and create plasters from natural materials. Learn for free as part of our growing community. Accommodation available.

About the Projects:

We will work on up to two real structires: a standalone bathroom and a small round house. We'll demonstrate and practice different earth building techniques such as how to transform clay, sand and plant fibers into a reliable building material, how to make adobe bricks, earthen plasters, lime plasters, and natural pigments.

The Location:

Durga's Den is a small permaculture farm about 20 minutes from Ocho Rios. It's the site for regenerative experimentation, organic vegetable farming and natural building. You may find it easily here on Google Maps and navigation systems. If you need specific directions, contact us.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is available in comfortable and simple cottages at Durga's Den. Shared cottages cost US$25 per person. Private cottages cost US$50 per person. Camping options also available for US$15 per night (bring your own tent). We may have a few extra tents available.

Food:

We'll provide light refreshments. Please bring your own food, if needed.
