what is earth building?
The art and science of creating structures and items using materials available in your ecosystem, chiefly soils. It includes modern and ancient techniques to create buildings, furniture, and items for life using local resources that take into account the wellbeing of the planet.
Course Details
Where
Cafe Rosa is a cozy multi-cultural cafe and garden space in Kingston. The Cafe is a relaxing green space in Manor Park.

Cost
Option 1: $15,000 JMD / $93 USD (Standard Cost)
Option 2: Pay what you can from $1,000 / $7 USD upwards

Day 1 - Earth Building Techniques and Materials
Learn about ancient and modern techniques around the world such as Cob, Adobe, Wattle and Daub, Earthbag and more
Explore the main materials - clay, sand, fibers, lime - and their qualities.
Hands-on practice mixing materials for building and artistry - develop the skill and 'feel' for the process.
Make Adobe bricks. We will make bricks together to be air-dried
Day 2 - Earthen Plasters, Paints, and Artistry
Create a miniature earthen structure as a group
Hands-on creation of natural plasters and paints that replace industrial paints.
Learn reliable plaster recipers
Creating your own unique plaster or paint.
Practice plastering technique on a small surface with hands-on guidance

Is there food?
Food is not included. There are several food locations within walking distance, including two supermarkets, and 5 different restaurants / cook shops
Clothing and environment
Expect to get a little dirty. We plan to spend time both outside and under shelter. We will use our bodies to mix earth. Please have clothing suitable for working outside. The environment is generally warm and sunny. It may also rain. You may bring a change of clothes if you prefer to have clean clothes.

It's a diverse space
We're interested in creating friendly and diverse spaces. That includes diversity in gender, race, religion, sexuality, economic status, and other features. We expect everyone to respect each other. If you are unable to share space with people different from you, do not register.
Are there payment plans? I need more time to pay
f you need more time to pay, ask us for a payment plan and propose a timeline for payment. We are very accommodating of reasonable proposals. You will still need to pay a 50% deposit and settle balance in a reasonable time (no more than 1 month after).
Refund Policy
Generally, registration fees are not refundable unless we cancel the event.
If we cancel the event: you receive a full refund.
If you cancel your attendance or cannot attend: we can consider a refund in certain cases. We determine a fair refund amount using the guidelines below.
If you cancel:
more than 2-weeks before the event: up to a 100% refund (minus processing fees)
Less then 2-weeks before the event: up to a 60-70% refund (minus processing fees)
Within 2-days of the event: up to a 50% refund (minus processing fees)
